A Matter of Balance

Many older adults experience concerns about falling and restrict their activities. This falls management workshop emphasizes practical suggestions to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels in older adults who want to be more active. During the series of eight 2-hour sessions, participants learn to:

  • View falls as controllable
  • Set realistic activity goals
  • Change their environment to reduce fall factors
  • Perform range of motion exercises to increase strength and balance

Matter of Balance sessions include group discussion, problem solving, and peer support. To achieve the intended outcome from Matter of Balance, attendance at all sessions in the series is required.

According to the US Department of Health and Human Service’s Administration for Community Living, “evidence-based disease prevention and health promotion programs reduce the need for more costly medical interventions.” Matter of Balance is an evidence-based program offered free of charge by COAAA and other partners to groups in Delaware, Fairfield, Fayette, Franklin, Licking, Madison, Pickaway, and Union counties.
